Soldier Sean meets his young supporters
A group of 3-5 year olds at a local day nursery have been sending Christmas cheer to their own forces hero over the last few weeks and were personally thanked for their efforts during a surprise Christmas Eve visit!
Macclesfield-based Bombardier Sean Dunbabbin flew out to Afghanistan in September to carry out his third tour of duty with his regiment, 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery.
Sean is engaged to local girl Tracey Nuttall who is Deputy Nursery Manager of Footprints Family Day Nursery in Cumberland Street.
The children learned about Sean being in Afghanistan through discussions around Remembrance Day. They continued to ask Tracey and the other Pre School staff about him and what he was doing, and decided they would like to send him a gift to lift his spirits in the run-up to Christmas.
Accompanied by Tracey, the children went to the local shops and bought some gifts of their choice which they then posted out to him.
On Christmas Eve Sean surprised his young supporters with a special visit to Footprints Family Day Nursery during a few days' surprise leave.
"I was delighted to be able to thank the children personally," said Sean. "It's a real morale-booster when we receive parcels from home and to know that these young people care enough to go to the trouble of doing this was very touching and made a big difference."
Sean has now returned to the front line and the children will be keeping in touch with him.
